HAIAN GAMA: EU ETS cost estimate
HAIAN GAMA (IMO 9322516) is a container ship that reported its fuel and emissions on voyages to, from and between EU and EEA ports to the EU MRV system for 2025. Below are the figures as reported and what they mean under the EU ETS, estimated by VesselVector.
EU ETS 2025, estimated 4,517 allowances ≈ €384,476 (≈ US$431,574)
The reported EU ETS emissions for 2025 × 70 % (the share to surrender for 2025, Directive 2003/87/EC Art. 3gb) × €85.12 per allowance. Due in the Union Registry by 30 September 2026 (passed). Art. 12(3)

The figure reported for the EU ETS, 6,453 t, is lower than the voyage split gives (7,203 t: between EU/EEA ports and in port 100 %, to and from them 50 %). Reasons can include emissions the ETS counts as zero: sustainable biofuels and other zero-rated fuels, and voyages under the derogations for outermost regions, small islands and public service contracts. Regulation (EU) 2015/757 Annex II Part C points 1.2, 1.5 The report does not say why; the estimate uses the reported figure.
Compared with other container ships
In 2025, HAIAN GAMA reported 6,453 t CO₂ for the EU ETS. The median of the 2,063 container ships with one report for the whole of 2025 is 10,888 t, so this ship is 41 % below it. The figure depends on how much of the year the ship traded in and with the EU, not only on its efficiency.
How the estimate works
The EU MRV report gives the CO₂ the EU ETS counts for the ship, worked out by the company and checked by the verifier: voyages between EU/EEA ports and time in their ports in full, voyages to or from a port outside at 50 %, and some emissions at zero. Directive 2003/87/EC Art. 3ga(1); Regulation (EU) 2015/757 Annex II Part C VesselVector applies the share to surrender for the year and values the allowances at the price shown. CO₂ only until 2025; from 2026 the ETS adds methane and nitrous oxide. Directive 2003/87/EC Annex I The company's real cost depends on when it bought its allowances and on the reductions it claims.
