HELENA: EU ETS cost estimate

HELENA (IMO 9584487) is a container ship that reported its fuel and emissions on voyages to, from and between EU and EEA ports to the EU MRV system for 2025 and 2024. It also reported as HELENA SCHEPERS. Below are the figures as reported and what they mean under the EU ETS, estimated by VesselVector.

EU ETS 2025, estimated, 2 reports 2,292 allowances ≈ €195,124 (≈ US$219,027)

The reported EU ETS emissions for 2025 × 70 % (the share to surrender for 2025, Directive 2003/87/EC Art. 3gb) × €85.12 per allowance. Due in the Union Registry by 30 September 2026 (passed). Art. 12(3)

Company

The company is the one named in the report: the shipowner, or the organisation such as the manager that took over the owner's duties under the ISM Code. The EU ETS charges the same company. Regulation (EU) 2015/757 Art. 3(d); Directive 2003/87/EC Art. 3(w)

When a ship changes company, the previous company files a partial report for its time with the ship. Regulation (EU) 2015/757 Art. 11(2) The last company's report gives fuel and CO₂ for the whole year: its fuel is at least the partial reports' fuel in all 1,759 such cases in the 2024 and 2025 files. Its EU ETS figure equals the last company's part in 944 of them and the whole year in 32; the files do not say which. 2025 in total, adding up the reports: 2,292 allowances, ≈ €195,124 (≈ US$219,027).

How the estimate works

The EU MRV report gives the CO₂ the EU ETS counts for the ship, worked out by the company and checked by the verifier: voyages between EU/EEA ports and time in their ports in full, voyages to or from a port outside at 50 %, and some emissions at zero. Directive 2003/87/EC Art. 3ga(1); Regulation (EU) 2015/757 Annex II Part C VesselVector applies the share to surrender for the year and values the allowances at the price shown. CO₂ only until 2025; from 2026 the ETS adds methane and nitrous oxide. Directive 2003/87/EC Annex I The company's real cost depends on when it bought its allowances and on the reductions it claims.
